About Project

The Global Taiwan Chair project at Palacký University Olomouc was established in July 2025 with the support of Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is coordinated by Dr. Kristina Kironska from the Department of Asian Studies, Faculty of Arts. Under her leadership, activities of the project include hosting visiting scholar(s) from Taiwan, supporting research stays by Czech-based scholars in Taiwan, and offering Taiwan-focused courses and workshops to enhance academic and student engagement with Taiwan. In parallel, knowledge production on current affairs—particularly Europe and Central and Eastern Europe’s relations with Taiwan—will be advanced through analyses published by the cooperating think tank, Central European Institute of Asian Studies (CEIAS Prague Office).

The university already hosts a Taiwan Corner (see: https://taiwancorner.upol.cz/), which offers access to books and digital resources from Taiwan’s National Central Library and organizes activities that introduce Taiwanese culture and society. The launch of the Global Taiwan Chair project is expected to enrich existing cooperation by broadening the academic focus on Taiwan. The initial phase of the project is scheduled for one year. Concrete activities and updates will be communicated on this website.
