The Department of Asian Studies at UP invites applications for a short-term visiting scholar in Taiwan Studies. The position is open to Taiwanese citizens and Taiwan-based scholars of any nationality whose work focuses on Taiwan. The visit will last 1 or 2 months and must take place between February and June 2026. Working language: English. The visiting scholar will closely collaborate with Dr. Kristina Kironska.
Expected activities (deliverables)
The expected activities include:
- Teaching: deliver 1–3 guest lectures (at least one related to Taiwan’s foreign policy)
- Op-ed writing: co-author one short op-ed/policy brief (≈1,000–2,000 words)
- Research/project development: explore joint research and/or a potential project applications (e.g., Erasmus+ Cooperation/Coordination Partnerships).
Funding & logistics
This visit is funded by the Global Taiwan Chair project (https://gtc.upol.cz/en/).
- Lump-sum (gross): approximately (due to the exchange rate) USD 4,000 (1 month) / USD 8,000 (2 months)—intended to cover airfare, accommodation, and stipend.
- The scholar arranges travel, accommodation, and insurance; UP provides administrative support (letters for visa/entry if needed) and office space during the visit.
Eligibility
- Completed PhD (or equivalent research profile), research focus on Taiwan.
- Proficiency in reading Chinese (for engagement with primary sources).
- Strong command of English for teaching and publication purposes.
